IIT- Madras introduces India’s first Microprocessor

On Friday, IIT-Madras announced that its researchers have developed India’s first microprocessor, named Shakti. Shakti processor family can provide appropriate clock speeds to work with various end-user applications. It was fabricated at Indian Space Research Organizations (ISRO) in Chandigarh. It can be used in various sectors such as defense, nuclear power installation, and government agencies.

It can be considered as a processor which would support mobile computing and wireless devices. Its researcher stated that it would reduce the dependency on the imported microprocessors in communication and defense sector

IIT-M is already in contact with 13 companies which would allow the homegrown microprocessor to commercially serve its services to end users.
