IIT- Madras introduces India’s first Microprocessor

On Friday, IIT-Madras announced that its researchers have developed India’s first microprocessor, named Shakti. Shakti processor family can provide appropriate clock speeds to work with various end-user applications. It was fabricated at Indian Space Research Organizations (ISRO) in Chandigarh. It can be used in various sectors such as defense,¬†nuclear power installation, and government¬†agencies.

It can be considered as a processor which would support mobile computing and wireless devices. Its researcher stated that it would reduce the dependency on the imported microprocessors in communication and defense sector

IIT-M is already in contact with 13 companies which would allow the homegrown microprocessor to commercially serve its services to end users.
