Reliance Jio, India’s largest Telecom company, may soon launch voice over WiFi services, Which will allow users to make calls without relying on mobile network connectivity. This service would help in splitting Voice over LTE (VoLTE) traffic to Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi). We know that till now these type of services are being provided by apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Facebook Messanger and more.
According to TelecomTalk, Reliance Jio has been spotted testing its VoWiFi services in various places such as Kerala, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. The report also revealed a screenshot taken from an iPhone, reflecting the device was connected to Reliance Jio’s public WiFi service. Further, Reliance Jio’s VoWiFi service will be initially limited to Jio to Jio calls. It might be launched in February 2019.
What is Voice Over WiFi?
It is used for delivering voice packets over IP via WiFi. It can be possible that voice calls are interchangeably transferred between LTE and WiFi. It also eliminates dependency on Mobile Network and provides higher security.
